Internet Desk: The Supreme Court on Monday reserved its order on BCCI-Lodha Panel matter. The Board in its plea to the apex court has sought more time to implement the Lodha Panel recommendations. The Supreme Court bench headed by TS Thakur has reserved its order to later date.
The Chief Justice of India wants an undertaking on the dates by when the BCCI will adapt the recommended reforms.
The Supreme Court has reserved the order on whether the BCCI top brass should be removed and on other aspects of implementing the Lodha reforms.
Failure to enforce the reforms could now lead to the apex court constituting a panel of administrators that would supersede the current BCCI top brass.
The BCCI has been delaying the execution of Lodha Panel recommendations by an order passed by a Supreme Court bench on July 18.
The latest stance by the Board is somewhat surprising as the members in its last SGM held on Saturday unanimously decided to stand united against the implementation of Lodha Panel reforms. The members felt it would threaten the Board’s autonomy.
On Monday, BCCI president Anurag Thakur also filed a personal affidavit saying he wanted to know former Board chief and current ICC chairman Shashank Manohar whether Lodha reforms amounted to governmental interference.
The BCCI hasn't implemented the major Lodha Panel recommendations such as one-state-one-vote, age and tenure caps for officials. BCCI appointed lawyer Kapil Sibal has argued that its autonomy is being threatened by a Supreme Court-appointed committee.
It goes to be seen whether the BCCI will fall in line and accept the Lodha Panel recommendations or this is just a tactics to buy time from the Supreme Court.
