Captain Kohli's fighting century puts India in a great position. File Pic[/caption]Internet Desk: India reached 267 for three at the close of play on the first day of the third and final Test match against New Zealand, at Indore on Saturday.
Captain Virat Kohli was batting on 103* along side with Ajinkya Rahane (79*) ,as the duo added 167 runs for the fourth wicket at the end of day’s play.
A great knock from the Indian skipper along with Ajinkya Rahane have put the team in a commanding position. The partnership has pulled things away from the Blackcaps in the final session of the day. Kohli played a lot of fantastic shots in all parts of the ground and he was well backed with some great play of Ajinkya Rahane, as in pressure situation Rahane played elegantly and eased the things for his skipper.
The visitors tried their level best to break the partnership, but they couldn’t apply that extra pressure on the home side, as both the batsman were well prepared against all Kiwi bowlers.
Earlier in the day opener Gautam Gambhir played some fine shots in all parts of the game, but when he was looking dangerous Kiwi pace man Trent Boult trapped him infront of the wicket for 29. Other opener Murali Vijay was very unlucky as his powerful shot sticked into Latham’s hand at forward short leg when he was on 10. Pujara batted well along with Kohli as he scored 41 before Santner bowled a master class and bowled him fair and square.
The Kiwis need a big effort tomorrow morning to prevent the first innings from getting out of their reach.
Brief Scores:
India 1st innings: 267 for three in 90 overs (Virat Kohli 103 batting, Ajinkya Rahane 79 batting; Mitchell Santner 1/53).
