File Pic.[/caption]Internet Desk: Eighth-seed Kidambi Srikanth of India reached the quarter finals of Japan Open by beating compatriot Ajay Jayram. The Rio Olympics quarter finalist was declared the winner as Jayram was forced to retire for an unknown reason. Srikanth won the first game 21-16. The exact reason of Jayaram's retirement is not yet known. This is Srikanth’s fourth victory over Jayram, as he now leads 4-0 over the World No.19.
In his previous match Srikanth outran his countryman Parupalli Kashyap by 14-21, 21-14, 23-21. Kashyap was returning back from an injury after a long time. Srikanth got the better of Kashyap in a marathon 62 minutes encounter. On the other hand, Jayram defeated Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro in straight sets, 21-19, 23-21 in mere 46 minutes and took a sweet revenge of 2013 Hong Kong Open defeat.
In today’s round of 16 matches, Srikanth faced a strong challenge from his compatriot in the opening game and won it by 21-16, but unfortunately the match ended as Jayram retired due to an unknown reason.
The World No. 13 now moves on to the quarter-finals where he will face the winner of the match between Marc Zwiebler and Hsu Jen Hao.
Another Indian shuttler HS Prannoy lost his pre-quarterfinal match of Japan Super Series to the 2nd seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 16-21, 19-21.
