Internet Desk: Goa educationists may not keep enough faith on Maria Sharapova. Following objection from academicians and guardians of the students chapter on the life of Grand Slam winner tennis player will be removed from text book of Class IX.

Guardians and academicians of Goa pleaded to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) to remove the chapter on Maria Sharapova who was highlighted for her commendable success life story, among Goan students. In the English text book of Class IX, Beehive there was one chapter named ‘Reach for the Top’ which has included the life story of unwavering desire to succeed and willingness to sacrifice of Sarapova.

Following the appeal of the large section of Goan the education department has started to rethink over the chapter. However, the chapter will not be omitted totally for this year’s syllabus. Rather the teachers have been informed to teach the details of present state
of Sharapova. They have been asked to teach the students that how a bad habit can ruin long earned fame and fortune.

The GBSHSE will look after the scenario of Sharapova. The board is yet to take a call on whether the chapter will continue next academic year or not. “It depends on developments during this period. For now, we have asked the teachers to add moral values to the existing story on Sharapova by explaining on how bad habits could prove a doom,” said GBSHSE Secretary Shivkumar Jangam.

The five time Grand Slam winner of Russia is under suspension for two years for her use of prohibited drug meldonium. The GBSHSE sent a circular to all schools in the State on July 21 on the changes of the chapter.
