Sports fraternity comes forward for a noble cause

Kolkata: As of now, we have witnessed supporters coming forward and supporting their favourite players in  whatever sports it may be. It can be cricket, football or any other sports. Sports fraternity from all over the country has come forward to help two cancer patients Bapi Majhi and late Alip Chakraborty's family. We xtratime.in are organising an auction today at the Hotel Aauris from 7 p.m. to raise funds for Bapi and Alip's family.

Former India captain and presently CAB President, Sourav Ganguly has come forward to donate his Cricket All Stars T20 league jersey which he wore and played for Sachin Blasters in the U.S.A in the last November. Sourav himself will be present in the auction with other sports personalities.

Indian national football team captain and the highest scorer for the country, talismanic striker, Sunil Chhetri has also come forward for the duo to help them and their family. Sunil has donated his national team' s jersey wearing which he scored the 50th international goal for India.

Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata has come forward to support the charity fundraising auction. The city based franchise has donated a couple of jerseys signed by Brazilian football legend Pele.  Both the Brazilian national team jersey and Atletico jersey have his signature on them. Along with the jerseys the inaugural ISL champions has also donated a football signed by the legendary footballer.


Atletico De Kolkata Secretary, Subrata Talukdar said, “Football fans should not be discriminated by virtue of the club they support. First and last, they are football lovers and the disease from which these fans are suffering from is very dangerous. we are always by their side.”


Atletico has also donated signed jerseys of their star recruits of last season – Canadian Iain Hume and Portugese striker Helder Postiga. Hume enthralled the fans with his goal scoring ability, scoring 11 goals from 16 matches. Atletico’s marquee footballer Helder Postiga started the season well scoring a brace against Chennaiyin FC. But an injury to his hamstring sidelined him for the rest of the tournament.


Indian ace tennis star Leander Paes has also joined hands with Sourav Ganguly and others and donated his two sets of Raquets for this noble cause. Leander has won the mixed doubles triumph with Martina Hingis in the Wimbledon last year and with the other he had won the French Open.


Indian ODI & T20I captain MS Dhoni has donated his wicket keeping gloves and pads for the fundraising charity auction for the treatment of cancer patient Bapi Majhi. It is the same pair of wicket keeping gloves with which the talismanic wicketkeeper has inflicted quite a few stumping and took some outstanding catches in international cricket. The Rising Pune Supergiants captain has also donated his pair of wicket keeping pads for the charity auction. Dhoni, who also has a charity foundation, has come forward to support in this noble cause by xtratime.in.


The pads and pair of gloves were used by MSD in ODI’s and T20’s. Arguably the best Indian captain of all time, Dhoni has also wished a speedy recovery of Bapi. Joining hands with Dhoni is Ajinkya Rahane. The vice captain of the Indian test team has donated his India ODI jersey for the noble cause.


Another Indian cricketer Manish Pandey has donated his Knight Rider jersey. Pandey is a part of the Indian ODI and T20 squad that will be lead by Dhoni for the tour Zimbabwe. The best all rounder in ODI’s Shakib al Hasan has also come forward in this noble initiative. The all rounder from Bangladesh has donated his bats for the charity auction.


Among the other international cricketers who have contributed towards the charity auction are Knight Riders china man bowler Brad Hogg. The 45 year old Aussie has donated his KKR jersey to be put under the hammer.


Even, former Indian cricketer and IPL franchisee Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor, VVS Laxman too has come forward by donating the practice jersey of SRH in this edition of IPL.


Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary donated his pair of gloves with which he scored his debut ODI hundred against West Indies at Chepauk. The southpaw took 125 balls to complete a defiant knock in extreme hot conditions. Eventually he had to retire due to cramps. Manoj also donated his India ODI jersey along with a India practice cap and one of his favourite bat with which he scored several first class hundreds.

India’s test wicket keeper, Wriddhiman Saha has donated his keeping gloves and batting gloves with which he played the second test match against Sri Lanka last year at P.Sara Oval, Colombo. Wriddhiman scored his second test fifty (56 off 117) of his career in the first innings of the match as well as took a catch and a did a stumping wearing those pair of keeping gloves.

Former Bengal captain and MoS Sports (WB Govt.) Laxmi Ratan Shukla has donated his signed jersey with which he lead Bengal to win the 2012 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Mumbai. Laxmi scored a brilliant 106* and took 4 wickets in the final. The all rounder also donated his pair of pads he wore in the succesful Vijay Hazare campaign.

India women cricketer Jhulan Goswami too has donated her Woman of the Series jersey against Australia to go under the hammer.
