Image Source: twitter@KKRiders[/caption]Internet Desk: It was quite an emotional moment when Robin Uthappa took 1 year old Anirban Debnath from Howrah on his laps. Another such moment arrived when Yusuf Pathan had words of encouragement for 14 year old Rinki Mondal from Murshidabad. Both Anirban and Rinki are part of the 32 children’s at St Jude India Child Care Centre who are braving their heart to fight with cancer. It was a wonderful gesture from the Kolkata Knight Riders management who took the cricketers to spend some quality time with the children and spread happiness.

Image Source: Kolkata Knight Riders[/caption]Robin Uthappa , Yusuf Pathan and Sheldon Jackson along with KKR CEO Venky Mysore were at the St Jude India Child Care Centre in Rajarhat to share some quality time with the children.St Jude center provides holistic care to children who are undergoing cancer treatment and their families. Cancer-affected children from Tata Memorial Centre and Thakurpukur Cancer Research Centre is be treated at the St Jude India Child Care Centre, which provides free of cost medical help.
Out of the 32 children’s 24 are from Tata Memorial Centre and the rest are from Thakurpukur Cancer Research Centre

Image Source: Kolkata Knight Riders[/caption]The Knight Riders have an association with this charitable organisation and have been involved with such charity for last few years. The cricketers were welcomed by the children by singing “ We shall overcome someday”, “Twinkle Twinkle little stars” and “Hum honge kamyaab”
Robin got very emotional playing with kids. He said,“These kids are our inspiration. We can learn how to live life. We all have struggles in our live but their struggle is different. We should all salute them.”
Yusuf Pathan, who has been involved with such initiative in Baroda commented, “I have attaended such programme in Baroda as well. It feels very bad. They cannot express their sorrow and pain. Most of them are infected with leukemia”

They were taken on a tour of the Centre and saw first hand the St Jude model and the holistic care it endeavours to provide the children under treatment. They were handed gift packets which included signed bats of the Knight Riders cricketers along with a battery operated piano.
This activity was the first of many follow-up events under the CSR initiative of the Gionee Knight Golf tournament where KKR pledged to use funds to support causes in Kolkata.
"Our endeavour has always been to give back to the city that has supported us always. It was indeed a pleasure to meet the children who display such great fighting spirit. The children inspired our players to have a never-say-die attitude," Mr. Venky Mysore, CEO & MD, KKR said.
Over the past decade St Jude India ChildCare Centres has developed a model complementing the medical treatment being received by children suffering from cancer. The model lays great emphasis on cleanliness and hygiene at all its Centres, spread over 5 cities in India, namely Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Jaipur and Hyderabad, which prevents secondary infections and improves chances of a complete cure.
