Kolkata: East Bengal still have the chances to win the I-league though it might be little but it is there. Keeping this equation in mind, now former East Bengal coach resigned when the Red and Gold have two matches in hand. Why did he resign suddenly and what are the circumstances which forced him to resign. He answered all the questions in details in an exclusive interview with xtratime.in. The following are the xcerpts:

XT: Why did you resign suddenly when your team is still on the verge of winning the title?

Biswajit: Where have I put East Bengal under pressure? I have given the club the CFL. They have become runners-up in the Sk. Kamal International Cup and I have remained unbeaten in the derby. Last but not the least, East Bengal is on the verge of the championship though it is very little.

XT: Debjit Ghosh had the remote control in his hand. You had no power while coaching. Is it true?

Biswajit: Debjit blamed to the officials that I restrict him from coaching which is not true. In every club there is a system and in the same way in East Bengal assistant coaches used to work under my reign. The job of the assistant coaches is to work as per schedule set by the chief coach.

XT: Bello Rasaq said that Sanjoy Sen is not a good coach but he had an excellent man management capability which Biswajit Bhattacharya lacks. What is your view on that?

Biswajit: Why Bello is saying all these things now? He should have said all these earlier when I was the coach. Now it is needless to say this rubbish. This is Bello’s personal view. I don’t want to comment on that.

XT: Did you ever feel during your stint with East Bengal as coach that you had to fight with the shadows of Trevor Morgan every day?

Biswajit: No, I never felt anything like that. Look when you are coaching in big clubs like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan pressure will always surround you and if you want to succeed you have to overcome those.

XT: People used to make fun of you wearing sunglasses. They called you as “sunglass” coach. What do you want to say on that?

Biswajit: During my playing days, I met with a severe accident where my retina was hurt severely. Since then, to protect my eyes I used to wear my sunglasses just to avoid the sun rays. Although, the supporters used to make of fun of that, I took it very sportingly.

XT: During the CFL, you had problems with Ranti Martins whereas in the I-league it happened with Dong. What would you like to say on that?

Biswajit: Ranti Martins joined late during the pre season and he had a slight injury so I did not risk him as we had a long season ahead. In between the chemistry between Dong and Rafique grew up superbly during the CFL so I could not drop either of the two. I discussed with Ranti on this issue and he said he had no problems.

XT: Regarding fourth foreigner issue, it is heard that you wanted Antonio German but the club provided you Bernard Mendy. Is it true?

Biswajit: look, we had lots of foreigners in the list. From Leo Moura to German to Mendoza we had a lot of players on the list. But unfortunately they were all previously contracted with a club. So I took Mendy as he is a utility footballer and if you remember we had lot of injuries during that time like Dika, Gurwinder, Lobo and Dong. If you see Mendy he has been successful in whatever positions I have used him and not only that he had scored goals too.

XT: Everybody blames the coach and footballers when a team loses but don’t you feel in this case even the officials are equally responsible for giving you such a weak team?

Biswajit: No, not at all. I have never said that I was given a weak team. I took the coaching assignment after knowing everything about team. I have said it earlier also that this is a very good side.

XT: It has been said that there was a misunderstanding between you and Mendy regarding the holiday issue. People say you could not understand his English. Is it true?

Biswajit: Mendy has blamed me in a wrong way. He said that I am a ‘Liar’. He could have spoke to me before giving any statement to the media. He misbehaved with me which I did not like. What Mendy did, I could have easily reported to the club officials but I did not do that.

XT: It is being said that AIFF is favouring Bengaluru FC. What is your say on that?

Biswajit: This is absurd. I have never said anything like that. It is our failure we could not utilize the chances. I have said it before and saying the same now that referring has been poor.

XT: You have reigned from Mohun Bagan as well as East Bengal. Why?

Biswajit: The issue with Mohun Bagan was different. But in East Bengal the important reason for my resignation was sabotage which I hate the most. Even my news of resignation was leaked before I resigned. Earlier, the fine which I imposed on players was leaked to the media. Who is doing all this, someone who is related with the internal matters of the club? Specially, this sabotage issue forced me to resign.

XT: Whom do you want to see as the next East Bengal coach? Trevor Morgan or Karim Bencherifa?

Biswajit: This is the work of the official. I would not comment on that.
