The left hander guided Uttar Pradesh it’s maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy with a thumping 38-run win over two-time champions Baroda in the final under lights at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday .
Put in to bat , Uttar Pradesh posted a challenging score of 163/7 . Opener Prashanth Gupta scored 49 runs off 41 balls along with skipper Raina who chipped in with a quickfire 47 runs off only 37 balls .
In reply, Baroda lost half their side for 84 and then were stopped at 125 for 7 wickets. Baroda just failed to get going full throttle, especially against the double spin attack of Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 12) and orthodox leg spinner Piyush Chawla (0 for 16).
Another Australia bound cricketer Hardik Pandya did not do justice to his talent as he was dismissed for only 13 runs off Kuldeep Yadav . Baroda could only manage 125 runs at the end thereby losing the finals by 38 runs .
